The Clifton School

Clifton School Floor Plans, Costs & Schedule

Renovation of the Clifton School will be approached in multiple phases.

The initial phase of work on Clifton School placed priority on converting the school building into an ADA compliant building, with the installation of an exterior elevator accessing all levels. In addition, the school was brought into code compliance through the addition of a fire protection system. A secured lobby entrance was created and the auditorium was renovated. This first, $1.7 million phase was completed in October 2010.

The second phase of renovations will renovate the original gymnasium - with its vaulted quarter-sawn oak tongue and groove ceiling -into a 2,700 ft. Great Hall for lectures, receptions, art fairs, dances and other large events. In addition, a catering kitchen will be added on the second floor of the building, dressing rooms will be created to serve the newly renovated auditorium, and roofing repairs will be completed to protect future investments in the building. Construction costs for Phase Two are estimated at $1.25 million.

Future phases will address replacement of major building systems including the installation of air conditioning and upgraded electrical systems, the reconstruction of stairs within the lobby connecting to the second floor gallery space, and general interior and exterior repairs and improvements.

Total costs for all phases of the renovation are estimated between $10-11 million depending on when funds are raised to complete the renovation and future construction cost escalations.
