From Prose to Poems
Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:45 p.m.
Want to learn how to write a poem or a collection of poetry from your life experience? In this workshop, you’ll learn about:
- Narrative, rhymes, personification styles of poems
- Line stanzas, being a radar to a potential poem, the poetic verse
- How to publish a collection of your poems and more
The class sessions will guide you in creating a poem based on memorable events from your life. After choosing the experiences that you want to share, you will write about them using regular prose writing. Then you will develop your prose story into a poem. But here’s the fun! The final poems of all participants will be published in a small anthology of poems to share with family and friends.
- Ages: 18+
- Session: 5 weeks (May 3 – 31, 2022)
- Cost: $60 for 5-week session
- Class Size: 5 – 12 students
- Health & Safety Measures: All CCAC staff, teachers, and participants must follow CCAC’s Covid-19 Preparedness Measures and Requirements for Participation when attending class in-person.

About the Instructor: Victor Vélez
Victor Vélez, a native of Puerto Rico, grew up in New York City and now lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. His creative talents are expressed through multiple artistic disciplines as a writer, poet, photographer, and musician. Victor studied Communication Arts at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York and began his writing career as a freelance writer in the early 1980s.
Victor’s published work includes A Quest for Answers: A Personal Journey (2003), Salsa on the Square: A Summer of Photos (2010) celebrating the annual summer salsa series on Cincinnati’s Fountain Square, Donde Esta, Señor? (Where Are You, Lord?) written in Spanish, and most recently, the suspense thriller Triduum of All Hallows (2022). He is the author of five poetry books.
