Musical Theatre Workshop
Wednesdays, 6:00 – 7:00pm
Musical theatre workshop is geared towards students interested in learning how to perform. This is a 10-week course that will result with a performance of the scenes that will be learned over the course of the class. The scenes will be a mixture of different Musical Theater scenes. Some examples would be Little mermaid, Shrek, Lion King, Alice in Wonderland, etc. (These examples are not guaranteed; the final decisions will be made once the class has started).
The lectures will include: How to practice, fundamentals of reading music, acting, etc.
There are two different course levels within this course:
- Solo and Ensemble: this will consist of the 60-minute class as well as another private 30-minute voice lesson each week (the lesson will be at the instructor’s studio or the students home, this will be set up between student and instructor). By registering for Solo and Ensemble you are guaranteed a solo in the ending performance as well as be part of ensemble selections.
- Ensemble Only: this will consist of only the 60-minute class at CCAC. You will be performing only as part of the ensemble.
Students should bring a water bottle, notebook, and pen/pencil.
Session: 10 weeks (June 14 – August 16, 2017)
Class Size: Minimum of 5 students required to run the class, with a maximum of 25 students.
About the Instructor Kristen Whalen
Kristen is a local private voice and piano in the Cincinnati area. She has been teaching for four years including in that time teaching voice at Miami University as part of her assistantship. Ms. Whalen has a bachelor’s degree of Northern Kentucky University in vocal performance as well as a Masters of Music in vocal performance from Miami University. She as experience with teaching many vocal genres including, classical/opera, pop, musical theatre, and rock. As a performer Ms. Whalen as performed all over the world including Salzburg Austria, Los Angeles, Columbus Ohio, and right here in Cincinnati. She is also one of the owners and founders of a new local opera company located in Cincinnati, called Seven Hill Opera Company. Seven Hills Opera Company’s mission is to help young musicians advance their career through role experience as well as providing a free musical experience for the community.
