Rockets to Robots: Landing on Mars

Imagine what it will be like to be the first astronauts on the surface of another planet in our solar system! Learn how NASA has successfully landed several rovers on Mars which have explored and transmitted their discoveries back to Earth. See how NASA accomplished this truly amazing feat of landing the latest rover, Curiosity.  Families will then have a chance to build “landers” for marshmallow astronauts using specified materials with the goal of safely landing on the surface of another planet!  Put your engineering skills to use by designing, testing and modifying a landing system that protects the astronauts without ejecting them on impact!  Are you up to the task of being our future NASA engineers?

  • Open to 3rd and 4th grade students attending Rockdale Academy, Fairview-Clifton German Language School, and South Avondale Elementary.
  • Students must attend with at least one adult and no more than one sibling.
  • Dinner and program are free.
