ANNIE D is the musical project of Ann Driscoll (b. 1987) – a multimedia artist who writes, records, and performs songs that fuse the idioms of 60’s pop, horror cinema, and op-ed columns into a funny, bracing, and singular perspective.
Driscoll was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and an early affinity for Nirvana and the Beatles inspired her to start writing immediately, crafting songs on a cassette 4-track throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Musical theater, classical music, Radiohead, and the oeuvre of Jon Brion emerged as major influences during these formative teenage years, which yielded the fittingly titled LP, Young Tracks.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Ann has performed in Egypt, Germany, and across America as a bassist and singer-songwriter and showcased twice at SXSW in Austin, Texas. She led the Internet royalties team at ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) in New York City.
July 2016 marked the release of her original singer-songwriter EP, Pushpins which spans genres including synth pop and rock and seamlessly interweaves topical insights with self-confessional reflections. Pushpins earned the following praise from Billboard Magazine, “Taken from Pushpins – her new EP full of musings that meld the personal and political — “Canary’s Corpse” combines delicate flourishes, an entrancing melody and a muscular bass line to create an immediately arresting tune. It’s also the rare musical parody that functions as a cohesive piece of music on its own.”
ANNIE D performs frequently in Cincinnati. Citybeat featured her music in their Sound Advice column this past June 2023, describing it as “singular, creative and instantly recognizable” and described her live performances as “a high-energy set of stellar indie pop songs…rocking and catchy original songs…powerful, polished and genuinely entertaining.”
