Ryan Newman is a distinguished design professional with broad expertise, from concept design and strategic development to leading complex projects and client management. His proficiency has been instrumental in delivering innovative solutions for a diverse range of projects in the realms of corporate, cultural, academic, and healthcare design, both domestically and internationally. Ryan’s ability to lead geographically diverse project teams underpins his philosophy of collaboration and teamwork, sparking innovation and driving a fluid design process.

His user-centered approach, honed through his global experiences living and working across the US, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, empowers him to navigate complex problems with creative solutions, considering diverse user needs. These international experiences have enriched his understanding of nuanced human behaviors, which he adeptly weaves into his design process, creating meaningful and impactful solutions.

At the heart of Ryan’s philosophy is the belief that design thinking, coupled with a practical, hands-on approach, is universally applicable. His ability to bridge the gap between technical and design teams reinforces this belief, fostering a culture of innovation that drives his teams to generate inspired solutions that blend research and design beautifully.

Recently his role as Innovation Director, Ryan recognizes the often nebulous nature of innovation. He embraces this ambiguity, fostering an environment that encourages experimentation as a critical step toward defining the journey toward innovative solutions. His approach involves utilizing design thinking, strategic research, and human-centered design to foster a rich culture of innovation, generate breakthrough ideas, and elevate the company’s design acumen.

Ryan’s commitment to the environment and sustainable practices is evident in his work. As a LEED-accredited professional since 2004, he has championed innovations within circular design, a framework that minimizes waste and maximizes resources. He consistently integrates sustainable practices into his projects, applying his expertise to various markets, including healthcare, education, corporate, and commercial sectors.

In addition to his professional roles, Ryan contributes to academia as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati – DAAP. His course, DesignED Thinking, introduces non-DAAP majors to the fundamentals of design thinking, equipping them with skills to address everyday challenges from fresh, innovative perspectives. His contributions as a speaker and lecturer at various forums, including the London Design Festival, further demonstrate his commitment to spreading the reach of design thinking.

Resilience and audacity are core elements of Ryan’s work ethos. His ability to take calculated risks and persist through adversity exemplifies his bold approach to his work. This courage, combined with his commitment to inclusivity, engagement, and originality, inspires others, helping them thrive, engage, and interact in their environments.

With a proven track record of success across industries—health & wellness, education, and environments—and a passion for pushing the boundaries of design and creative thinking, Ryan Newman is poised to bring value to any project, emphasizing the power of design to effect meaningful change. https://www.newmanr.com/
