CCAC Children’s Choir

CCAC Children’s Choir is a voice class for children ages 5 – 15 in their initial stages of vocal development. Our main focus will be to learn and practice good vocal health habits while we explore appropriate repertoire from a variety of vocal styles including Classical, Folk, Musical Theater, and Contemporary Commercial Music. This class is recommended starting point for children who are interested in taking private voice lessons.

  • Session: 10 weeks (January 10 – March 13, 2020) The Winter 2020 Session has been cancelled.
  • Cost: $150 per ten-week session
  • Class Size: A minimum of 6 students required to run class; no more than 12 students enrolled.

About the Instructor: Cindy Candelaria-Pieve
Puerto Rican Soprano Cindy Candelaria-Pieve graduated from the University of Puerto Rico (Secondary Music Education BA) and Hunter College (Voice Performance MA) and obtained her first formal vocal instruction from the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music (CMPR.) She played the following fully staged roles for the CMPR and Hunter College Opera Workshops: Gertrude in Hansel Und Gretel (E. Humperdinck) Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw (B. Britten ), Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors (G.C. Menotti, on a Spanish translation by Prof. Ilca López) and Cathleen in Riders to the Sea (R. Vaughan Williams); her oratorio solo performances include Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Fauré’s Requiem. She has collaborated in opera chorus and small roles with the PR Opera Company and the PR Symphonic Orchestra, and has performed as recitalist for Baroque Chamber Orchestra Mezza Di Voce (San Juan, PR) in several Music for all Seasons series (Cincinnati, OH) and the Museum of the City of New York.

She has an extensive experience conducting children, youth, and adult community and church choirs, teaching private (piano-beginners and voice) lessons and performing several music genres including jazz, gospel, musical theatre and classical music. Her teaching approach is suitable for a broad range of ages and interests. She has also provided formal music instruction at elementary, middle, and high schools in Puerto Rico and New York City; and private lessons in out of state and local music academies. Mrs. Candelaria-Pieve is currently based in Cincinnati while pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music and last year played the role of Mrs. Coyle in Benjamin Britten’s Owen Wingrave with CCM’s Opera Department. She has been working as a voice Teaching Assistant at CCM for the past two years, assisting the head of the voice department and providing voice lessons to undergraduate Musical Theatre and Graduate students who take lessons as a voice elective.
