Saturdays in the Park: Burning Caravan

This summer, join CCAC on the Second Saturday of the month from 10 am – 12 pm for a free, family-friendly concert at Inwood Park! From bluegrass to big band swing, R&B to Latin, each month’s performance will have your toes tapping and your body moving. Gather up friends and family then settle in for a musical morning.

Burning Caravan

“The Burning Caravan is a Cincinnati‐based four piece gypsy jazz, swing and Americana instrumental and vocal ensemble performing songs of Django Reinhardt, Sidney Bechet, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Dan Hicks, Pokey LeFarge, Steve Earle, Willy Nelson and others.

The band began in 2008 as a weekly gypsy jazz jam session at Dilly Deli in Mariemont. The band soon found work as a four‐piece ensemble renamed ‘The Burning Caravan,’ and has been performing regularly around the Cincinnati jazz scene since. In September 2016, Cincy Magazine named “”The Burning Caravan at Japp’s”” #6 on their ‘Best of the City’ list.

Current members are: Chris Miller, trumpet, vocals and percussion; Mike Barrett, guitar and vocals; Bart Johnson, bass and vocals; and Lauren Schloemer Wilson, violin and vocals.

In addition to regular appearances at Japp’s, Burning Caravan has performed at Taste of Cincinnati, Maifest, Summerfair, Bockfest, Findlay Market, Mecklenburg Gardens, Caffe Vivace, Behringer‐Crawford Museum Concert Series, Baker‐Hunt Arts Center Concert Series, Irish Heritage Center of Cincinnati, Myrtle’s, Neon’s, Dilly Deli, Happy2 Brewing, The Harth and Karrikin Spirits.”

Look through the map below to find different areas to park depending on which direction you’re coming from. The most direct access to the picnic shelter is down Wellington Pl which includes street parking and a small lot near the picnic shelter. A secondary lot and bus stop for the 46 and 78 lines is on Vine St.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be canceled. CCAC staff monitor the weather closely throughout the day of the concert and make a final decision the morning of the concert (typically by 8 am). In the event of a weather cancellation, we will share that information on this page, on our socials, and with our email list.
