Resilient Narratives: Inheritance, Survival, and Self-Redefinition

Kyle Salandy

Resilient Narratives is an immersive ceramic-based exhibition by Kyle Salandy exploring the intersection of personal and collective memory. Bridging past and present, trauma and triumph, the work centers voices often mis-or-underrepresented in mainstream culture. Using ceramics and mixed media to symbolize fragility, permanence, and transformation, Salandy’s work functions as both cultural artifact and contemporary commentary — tracing histories of displacement, resistance, and healing.

About the Artist

Kyle Salandy is a graduate of the Fine Arts program at Xavier University of Louisiana, where he studied under Professor Mapo Kinnord. He is currently a second-year graduate student at the University of Cincinnati, pursuing dual degrees: a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramic sculpture and a Master of Arts in Art Education.

In his creative practice, Salandy explores the realities of first-generation immigrant populations and the identities of marginalized communities. He is deeply engaged with the relationship between personal and collective histories, drawing inspiration from narratives of resilience within communities that have been historically overlooked or misrepresented in dominant cultural discourse. Working across various media—predominantly ceramics—his work investigates the nuances of these lived experiences, centering themes of healing, reflection, and social commentary. Salandy’s practice foregrounds the conditions of those at the margins, highlighting the bravery and endurance they demonstrate in the face of historical and political suppression.
