Musikgarten: Family Music for Babies

Play musically with your baby through bouncing and rocking songs, wiggle and peek-a-boo games, dancing, moving, and singing. Music play activities are designed to increase your child’s curiosity about music, to develop listening skills and a sense of beat, and to establish the foundation for singing and musical thought.

Ages: newborn - 18 months with parent/guardian

Her two board books, Cheer Up, Monster and A Day With Monster, feature a quirky felted monster/abominable snowman friend that was popular on her (now defunct) Etsy site, and are available now from blue manatee press.

Fashion Design

Saturday, April 27 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Create your own fashion line! You'll develop a fashion portfolio consisting of casual wear, party and evening dresses, swimsuits, and accessories. Students will also design fabric swatches to complement their portfolio. The day will end with a fashion display! Students should pack a non-refrigerated lunch.

About the Instructor
Lynn Arnsperger Lynn’s training is in fine art as well as commercial art & advertising and includes training at Hanna-Barbera for teaching animation. While there, she trained to be (and eventually became) the Dean of Animation at ACA College of Design. At Hanna-Barbera, Lynn learned how a real animation studio operates. Many of her students have gone on to have successful careers in art, like a graphics designer for the Super Bowl, department head at Disney, and Assistant Editor for Dungeons and Dragons Magazine. Lynn is a regular teacher at CCAC and has led classes, workshops, and camps for numerous years.

Musikgarten: Cycle of Seasons

The Cycle of Seasons is a musical celebration of the four seasons using activities that build on the child's growing independence and competencies. It nurtures the children's ability to use language and capitalizes on their delight in dramatic play within the musical context. Classes are filled with songs, movement activities, exploration of instruments, and imaginative stories for children to make their own. Encourage the child's moving, singing, verbal, and listening skills and tap into the child's vivid imagination and lay the foundation for creative development via story-telling and poetry.

About the Instructor
Uri Sella Uri grew up in Israel, where he served in the Israeli army and studied law. Upon graduation, he clerked on the Israeli Supreme Court and, in 1994, moved to New York City to start a career as a corporate lawyer. In New York, he discovered a passion to express himself with paint. Twice a week, after a long day in the office, he would shed his suit and tie and travel downtown to attend Jack Potter’s evening classes on drawing and composition at the School of Visual Arts. Several years later, he decided to abandon the practice of law and joined his wife in Cincinnati. Upon the birth of his first child, he became a stay-at-home father. He also studies and teaches tai chi.

Joel is the founder of SupermurgaNati, whose mission is: To amaze, enable, and empower Cincinnati's Jitterbugs and Lindy Hoppers creatively, technically, and socially by providing opportunities for elite instruction, generous mentoring, exciting collaboration, supportive connections, and amazing dance. Joel has been teaching, performing, community building, and producing events in the Swing Dance community all over the Eastern United States for 25 years. He is a former Virginia State Open Jitterbug Champion and Southwestern Regional Lindy Hop Champion. He has served as Competition Coordinator and/or Head Judge for the American Lindy Hop Championships (Stamford, CT), Lindy Focus (Asheville, NC), and Beantown Dance Camp (Boston, MA) multiple times. Joel has taught classes at far too many events to name. He is a founding and honorary lifetime member of the Piedmont Swing Dance Society in Greensboro/Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and was a founding member and first president of the Atlanta Swing Era Dance Association. In class, we use a partner rotation system where Leads dance with all the Follows and Follows dance with all the Leads. All students are expected to participate in the rotation unless there is an extenuating circumstance. Our classes are not designed for students to stay with the same partner.

Students are allowed to choose their own role in class, Lead or Follow. Students may also switch roles as frequently as they like.

It is highly likely that in every class, students will dance with some partners of the same gender and some of different genders during the rotation. The expectation is that all students be respectful of all other students at all times.

The term “Jitterbug” means many different things to many different people of many different backgrounds. This class will start with the most universal 6-count rhythms and movements across all idioms of Swing Dance. We’ll get you on the dance floor quickly and present fundamental concepts that will guide the development of your technique and style in the future.

Swing Dance Foundations: Lindy Hop

Emerging in the 1920s as a combination of the rhythm, styling and technique of African Dance (a la The Charleston) with the lead/follow partnering aspects of European dances (like the Waltz), Lindy Hop takes its name from a coincidental historical event of the same time period: the first ever trans-atlantic flight piloted by Charles Lindberg in 1927. Created by African-Americans and traditionally danced to Big Band Jazz Music, Lindy Hop is the “founding father” of all future Swing Dance idioms.
