Participate with your toddler in singing, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments – while developing a strong musical bond with your child. Toddlers and their adults will sing, chant, move, dance, listen and play simple instruments: this class provides a full mix that allows them to be active, which is how they learn. We'll channel the toddler's energy productively, facilitate expression of feelings, assist in improving memory through repetition, and develop further musical aptitude and focused listening.

The Cycle of Seasons is a musical celebration of the four seasons using activities that build on the child's growing independence and competencies. It nurtures the children's ability to use language and capitalizes on their delight in dramatic play within the musical context. This one-day writers' retreat will change your mindset on becoming an author. Throughout the workshop, participants will:

Victor Vélez Victor, a native of Puerto Rico, grew up in New York City and currently lives in Cincinnati. His creative talents are expressed through multiple artistic disciplines as a writer, poet, photographer, and musician. Victor studied Communication Arts at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York, and began his writing career as a freelance writer in the early 1980s. Victor’s published works include:

About the Instructor
Melinda Welch Melinda E. Welch earned her Master’s degree and teaching license in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati’s school of Design Architecture, Art and Planning. Melinda’s Masters thesis focused on developing a visual arts curriculum for a community arts center. Currently, Melinda is teaching for the Clifton Cultural Arts Center and leading art classes at Bridgeway Pointe, UC Health, an assisted living residence. Melinda’s teaching experience includes 14 years as Art Director at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center. While Art Director, she developed her vision for a visual art community driven by a strong, cohesive art curriculum and relationships with her students and families. She sought to connect with surrounding communities by integrating free art programming through connections with local schools, libraries and recreation centers. She often collaborates with diverse music teachers, and other non-profit organizations such as Elementz and BioKoto. While in graduate school, she was employed by Kennedy Heights Art Center to teach adult and youth art classes. She also taught after-school art at Pleasant Ridge Montessori and the Pleasant Ridge Library. Her student teaching experience includes Walnut Hills High School, Sherwood Elementary, North Avondale Montessori, and Anderson High School. For the Contemporary Art Center, she taught an arts integration curriculum at Bond Hill Elementary. For the CAC she also led art programing at various local schools and in the UNMuseum. She has completed internships at the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Taft Museum of Art, Manifest Gallery and Prairie Gallery. She was part of a youth community photography program in conjunction with Happen Inc, Prairie Gallery and the Mill Creek Restoration Project. Melinda is an active and experienced artist who works in ceramics, photography, collage and whatever else strikes her artistic fancy. She and her husband reside in Camp Washington with their two children.

Judy Dominic Judy is a native of southwest Ohio. She has been weaving in some fashion since 1979 and indulges in all sorts of fiber techniques. Her use of natural and odd materials has become her signature, and she teaches and exhibits locally, nationally, and internationally. Judy has been honored locally for enhancing the quality of community life through art. She lives with a wonderfully supportive husband and claims three handsome sons, two lovely daughters-in-law and six lively grandchildren. Carole Douglas Carole was born, raised, and educated in Cincinnati where she married, then raised three boys. She taught arts and crafts with Cincinnati Recreation Commission for thirty years before becoming happily retired. Carole’s true love is fiber arts, always returning to sewing and quilting, but continuing to add different colors and textures to her fabric. Second only to the doing is the learning and teaching of various techniques to add excitement and freshness to the surface of the fabric!

About the Instructor
Karen Saunders Karen is a multi-disciplinary artist who hopscotched across the Midwest before landing in Cincinnati, where she’s been practicing as an artist and arts educator for almost three decades. She has a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with an emphasis on Ceramics and an MA in Art Education from Miami University at Oxford.

For the better part of 20 years, she has worked with diverse audiences at local institutions, such as the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Kennedy Heights Arts Center, and exhibiting her art at such venues as the Contemporary Arts Center, Canton Art Museum, Richmond Art Museum, and 21c Museum/Hotel.

She routinely works collaboratively with community and artist groups, with one notable example being the Bombshells of Cincinnati, a largely anonymous group of local lady crafters who juxtapose vandalism with the non-threatening nature of fiber art.

Karen is inspired by large-scale projects that might intimidate less resourceful and creative artists. She is ever challenging her own expectations and growing her ongoing practice.

Lynn Arnsperger Lynn’s training is in fine art as well as commercial art & advertising and includes training at Hanna-Barbera for teaching animation. While there, she trained to be (and eventually became) the Dean of Animation at ACA College of Design. At Hanna-Barbera, Lynn learned how a real animation studio operates. Many of her students have gone on to have successful careers in art, like a graphics designer for the Super Bowl, department head at Disney, and Assistant Editor for Dungeons and Dragons Magazine. Lynn is a regular teacher at CCAC and has led classes, workshops, and camps for numerous years.

Dawn Grady Dawn L. Grady is the owner and designer of Junebug Jewelry, a handcrafted artisan jewelry boutique located in Over-the-Rhine. A mostly self-trained artist, she fell in love with jewelry making after a simple bead-stringing class at the University of Cincinnati's Communivesity program 14 years ago. Her passion for learning new skills led her to the classrooms of renowned master metalsmiths who taught her the ancient and modern techniques she uses to create her vision of wearable art – combining copper, Argentium silver, and semi-precious gemstones for a truly signature look. In addition to its storefront in Over-the-Rhine, you can find Junebug online at junebugjewelrydesigns.com. Deb enjoys teaching art and sharing her love of art-making and its countless therapeutic effects with people of all ages. She has taught and led community-based art projects through the Ohio Arts Council, community arts centers, schools, art museums, and many other organizations. Lynn Arnsperger Lynn’s training is in fine art as well as commercial art & advertising and includes training at Hanna-Barbera for teaching animation. While there, she trained to be (and eventually became) the Dean of Animation at ACA College of Design. At Hanna-Barbera, Lynn learned how a real animation studio operates. Many of her students have gone on to have successful careers in art, like a graphics designer for the Super Bowl, department head at Disney, and Assistant Editor for Dungeons and Dragons Magazine. Lynn is a regular teacher at CCAC and has led classes, workshops, and camps for numerous years.

About the Instructor
Melinda Welch Melinda E. Welch earned her Master’s degree and teaching license in Art Education from the University of Cincinnati’s school of Design Architecture, Art and Planning. Melinda’s Masters thesis focused on developing a visual arts curriculum for a community arts center. Currently, Melinda is teaching for the Clifton Cultural Arts Center and leading art classes at Bridgeway Pointe, UC Health, an assisted living residence. Melinda’s teaching experience includes 14 years as Art Director at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center. While Art Director, she developed her vision for a visual art community driven by a strong, cohesive art curriculum and relationships with her students and families. She sought to connect with surrounding communities by integrating free art programming through connections with local schools, libraries and recreation centers. She often collaborates with diverse music teachers, and other non-profit organizations such as Elementz and BioKoto. While in graduate school, she was employed by Kennedy Heights Art Center to teach adult and youth art classes. She also taught after-school art at Pleasant Ridge Montessori and the Pleasant Ridge Library. Her student teaching experience includes Walnut Hills High School, Sherwood Elementary, North Avondale Montessori, and Anderson High School. For the Contemporary Art Center, she taught an arts integration curriculum at Bond Hill Elementary. For the CAC she also led art programing at various local schools and in the UNMuseum. About the Instructor
Donald Broerman Donald Broerman is an active composer, whose compositions are primarily solo guitar works. His music has been heard in concert at: The Cincinnati Guitar Society, Dayton Guitar Fest, CCM’s Something Different, Classical Revolution and House Concerts all over the midwest and as far as North Carolina. With two albums of original classical and classical crossover compositions, Donald's music has reached listeners in 73 countries and 5 continents. Donald earned his BM in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) under the direction of Clare Callahan and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He has also taken masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists: Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, Zoran Dukic, Marcin Dylla, Carlos Perez and Johannes Möller Donald studied composition with Terry McQuilken at the University of Oregon, Orchestration at CCM and took private lessons with Jennifer Jolley (Professor of Music Theory and Composition at CUNY Lehman College, President and Co-founder of N.A.N.O. Works Opera Company). Donald humbly gives back to the community through the Greater Cincinnati Guitar Society where he served as President from 2013 to 2022. His current role in the Society is Education Director. Donald is a member and guitar adjudicator for the Ohio Music Educators Association. He served as co-director and guitar faculty for the Summer Youth Guitar Workshop at CCM. Donald is a dedicated teacher whose students have won both state and regional gold medals through the Royal Conservatory of Music. He currently teaches at Indian Springs Academy of Music, The Wyoming Fine Arts Center, Leaves of Learning, Frederick Douglass Elementary, as well as his Home Studio. About the Instructor

Fabiola Méndez Native to Caguas, PR, Fabiola Méndez began playing the cuatro, a 5-double string traditional guitar of Puerto Rico, when she was 6 years old.

She was a student at the Hogar del Cuatro Puertorriqueño, the Humacao Musical Institute, the Antonio Paoli School of Music in Caguas, the Conservatorio de Artes del Caribe, and Berklee College of Music, where in 2018 she graduated as the first student to play the Puerto Rican cuatro as principal instrument.

She has worked with organizations such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Celebrity Series of Boston, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Puerto Rican Arts Alliance in Chicago, Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, among many others. She has collaborated with artists such as the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Totó La Momposina, Pedro Capó, Andy Montañez, Victoria Sanabria, Cucco Peña, Decimanía de Puerto Rico, Danny Rivera, Chicago Philharmonic, and the Boston Landmarks Orchestra.

Her list of recordings include: the Banco Popular Special Eco (2008), Fabiola Méndez and Herencia Criolla (2009), Ready for Departure (2014), Cuatro Sinfónico (2019), Al Otro Lado Del Charco (2019), and Afrorriqueña (2021), the last three being cataloged as part of the best 20 productions of 2019 and 2021 consecutively, according to the National Foundation for Popular Culture. In 2022, she produced her first documentary "Negrura", showcasing Afro-Latinx stories in topics around colorism and discrimination within our own communities.

In recent years, she’s had the honor of receiving recognition such as the Quincy Jones Award, ambassador for the Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, a motion from the PR House of Representatives as the first cuatro player to graduate from Berklee, the Brother Thomas Fellowship 2021, the Whippoorwill Arts Fellowship 2022, and the ASCAP Foundation Lucille and Jack Yellen Award 2022.

Currently, Fabiola and her trio present her original music nationally and internationally. She is an artist in residence for the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, a fellow for Whippoorwill Arts, and a composer for children's animated series, including PBS Kids shows Alma's Way and Work It Out Wombats, and HBO Max's Mecha Builders, produced by Sesame Street.

Highly Improvable Comedy Show: April 2024

with Highly Improvable Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; show begins at 8:00 p.m. Cincinnati’s own improvisational (improv) comedy troupe returns to CCAC for an evening of unscripted fun! Performing a series of improvisational games fueled by audience suggestions, Highly Improvable makes each show uniquely entertaining. This event is for adults and children 13 and older. Highly Improvable has been performing since 2011, when the troupe formed in a Hyde Park basement with three members. Now, the troupe has close to twenty members and regularly performs at the Lebanon Theatre Company and CCAC, as well as at the Improv Festival Cincinnati (IF Cincy). Their shows include long and short-form comedy at a variety of venues, and the troupe has branched out into sketch, stand-up, and podcasting. Highly Improvable alumni have gone on to perform at Second City, iO, the Annoyance, as well as a variety of different dramatic theater productions.
